Upbeat Performs at Virgin Megastore for Hurricane Katrina Relief

Virgin Megastore Downtown Disney hosted a concert on Saturday, September 24th to benefit people affected by Hurricane Katrina. Upbeat is proud to have helped hurricane victims as one of the bands performing in a great lineup that played for this event.

For many, this was the first chance to hear Upbeat in public performance.

Observers described it as "THRILLING" to have Upbeat open the benefit and have Downtown Disney strolling to the music, and described the band as "killer." The band held the crowd well - people were in corners dancing, others were at nearby tables enjoying the tunes. They reported "Amado's singing always blows me away. His new lead player, Rick, can cook too!"

Upbeat was scheduled to perform from 3:00 - 3:30, and arrived early enough to set up and soundcheck by 2:00. The band performed "Spooky" to soundcheck, then returned at 2:45 to perform "Route 66", "Superstition", "I Can't Hold Out" (a song by Mississippi artist Elmore James), "I Feel Good", "Kiss", "I Got My Mojo Workin'" (a Louisiana-themed Blues song by Muddy Watres), "Standing on Shaky Ground", and "Black Magic Woman/Gypsy Queen".

According to one witness, Upbeat had "great song selection, a tight sound, and really cool threads too!" A great time was had by all, and it all went to help to rebuild New Orleans and the Mississippi Delta region, which have been so important to the development of America's musical heritage.
